Project Monitoring Week 6

Project Monitioring week 6

This week was our final week of production to finish our product. It has been a very stressful week making sure that everything was going to be finished in time for the deadline; with everything finished on my project it gave me time to put any finishing touches that could improve my overall grade of the magazine. I finished writing up the contents page and putting my Darlington article together.

One of the main reasons why this article has taken me longer to do than the England article was because I was unsure how to layout the article and how to use the images that I had taken in the past few weeks.  I have managed to finally put together something that appeals to me, and now that my magazine is finally finished I am pleased with the overall outcome of it all.

Article and Paragraph planning

Article Planning Sheet

Plan the language use of the primary code of your article in the box below.

Planning Comments
Type of article
(list, interview, editorial, countdown, real life story)
In my DPS I’m going to use a combination of editorial giving the reader how they can protect themselves and how to proven identity theft and countdown of the top 10 ten way how identity theft actually happens in break out boxes.
Introductory paragraph
In my introductory paragraph I am going to warn the reader of what is happening in this epidemic and asking them if they aware what is actually going on behind closed doors of hackers to get them hooked into the story
Narrative voice
(1st, 2nd or 3rd person)

Why?
During my DPS I’m going to use all three of the options, for first paragraph I’m going to address the reader in second person to get them hooked into the story, for first person I’m going to give someone at brief to what can happen if you are a victim so this will help to break the article up giving the reader something different to read and in third person I’m going to use in my break out boxes to show the reader what they should and shouldn’t do when it comes to identity theft.
Register
(Informal/formal, colloquial, dialect, taboo words?)
For my DPS I am going to use informal as the reader of the most popular magazine in my questionnaire was a lad’s mag and a music mag so I want to the article to appeal to a young male audience so by using informal language it will appeal more, also by using mild taboo (words such as shit and twat) it will help to appeal to the target audience.
Semantic Field
Suggest words associated with this field
In my article for semantic field I’m going to use crime so I can link it with the actual topic;
  • Police phrase (arrested)
  • About the crime (steal, theft)
  • Criminal (steal)
  • Acts of crime (identity theft)
Tone of address
(hectoring, sarcastic, ‘matey’, ironic, etc)
Like what magazine?
For my DPS I’m going to use banter as it is a lad’s magazine as if the magazine is talking to the lads at the pub, so in a way it’s going to be ‘matey’. If you were going to tell your friends how your day had been like you just want to have a good laugh
Length of article

Length of each paragraph
The length of my article is going to be 8 paragraphs in editorial.
Then I’m going to use two break out boxes in the first one it is going to be a count down from 10 to 6 then in the second break out box it will be the top 5. Each paragraph will consist of no more than 150 words as each one of my paragraph is; who, what, where, when, why and how.

Paragraph Plan

What key points are you going to include in each paragraph.

1
Introduction paragraph of what it is and how it is fast spreading
2
Who is effected by identity theft
3
What is effected
4
Where it is most popular ways of identity theft
5
When does it happen
6
Why does it happen
7
 How to protect yourself
8
Views of another teenager on identity theft
9
Break out box countdown from 10-6
10
Break out box countdown 5-1

Contingancy Plans

What could go wrong during production
How are you going to avoid this issue? What’s your back up plan?
I would not able to get an interview with anyone involved with Darlington FC
Create a collage of images that represent Darlington
If I could not get an interview with Curtis Main
Interview someone who is involved with North east football
The photos that I need to include in my England article
Use images of fans instead of actual players
If I do not get the interview with anyone who is relevant to my articles
Interview fans from Darlington and get what they think of the situation
With the England article I need to put together something that is relevant to a future XI
If this does not work I will put together a team of all time England favourite players from 1966 till present.

Interview with Shaun Campbell (Questions and Answers)

Hi Shaun, Thank you for giving your time to allow Over the Line to Interview you.

1.       How did you become involved in the whole situation of helping to save Darlington last year?
Being a local to the area I knew that Darlington had been struggling over the past few seasons but the season just gone really took the club by surprise. I thought it would be the right idea to become involved with the DFCRG, so I set about helping Darlington FC Rescue Group (DFCRG) to raise the £50,000 they needed to stop the club folding in. Now I see Darlington football club a big part of my life, seeing the club still existing after 130 years is a satisfying feeling knowing that I was part of the group that saved the club.

2.       With the vast history behind the club did you feel that it would be wrong to let it all go down the drain?
After all the Darlington has been through since 1883 it would of been a shame to let it all go to waste. One highlight of the club was the first professional black footballer, Arthur Wharton, as the trustee founder of the Arthur Wharton foundation it is important that people know that in a day and age where rascal issue is a huge topic that Darlington looked past skin colour to see a footballer with potential. Also with Darlington they have had a tipsy turvy existence in and out of administration, winning cup finals and reaching new heights for the club overall.

3.       In the time that you helped to save the club what were the biggest frustrations you faced?
For me the whole situation was a lot to handle at first because you had the whole of the club, players and fans depending on you to make sure that we had what it took to save the club last year. One of the biggest challenges that we did face was trying to find the money when we first started out, luckily the fans were quick to come with large donations such as the one from a oversee supporter who pledged £150,000 to the club. When we knew that the club could play the next game against Fleetwood the frustrations became reliefs.

4.       Overall what do you feel were the good points to come out of the situation?
As you can guess the best point of the whole situation was when we found out in May that the club had been saved and was out of administration. Other points also made the experience enjoyable, as a local business man it was great to be involved with the community as it was a wholesome feeling getting people involved in all sorts of ways to help save the club. Overall being involved with the project gave me self satisfaction knowing that we will go down in history.

5.       In your opinion, what led the club to being in the mess they were left in by Raj Singh?
My opinion of the matter is that the club had been in trouble before Raj was chairmen. With the new ground being built left a lot of debt also when George Reynolds was chairmen there was debt left over for Singh to pick up. So I don’t think he is all to blame but he was involved in dragging the club down.

6.       What do you think the future holds for Darlington in the coming seasons?
At the moment Darlington are top of their league which will hopefully lead to automatic promotion. As for the future I can’t say much on where the club will end but I do not feel that the club won’t be facing administration for a long time due to what has happened other the past year with all the people involved, with a tight knit of fans and community they will be able to get behind the club. In the future I would hope to see more trophies in the cabinet and I’m going to be ambitious and I can’t see why in a few years Darlington can’t return to League two.

Project monitoring-week 5

Project monitoring-week 5

This week I started to put all the pieces into place. Both my photo shoots and the photographs that I needed have been taken, both the Darlington and England triple page spreads have been written and photos have been taking now in the last week I am going to be working through all breaks, dinners and free lesson to complete the whole project. This week I have been focusing on my front cover, when looking at other magazines in the same genre I decided that I would base my project around this, when it came to putting the images in the idea that I created did not look professional, an almost thrown together front cover. This week I have fallen behind the schedule because having used the Monday lesson to take the photos for Darlington photo shoot and then the Thursday lesson for my England photo shoot.

With a week remaining to finish the project I will be using lesson time to place and shape all of the article then using the free time I have in and outside of college to put the finishing touches to the articles. The thing that I have found difficult while creating this project was time keeping to the schedule that I set myself, the reason why I have not made a major impact onto my magazine was due to poor decisions.

The pictures that I have taken this week are going to be used in every single page of the magazine, the one article that is going to take time to put together is the Darlington first page, the reason for this is that the photos that I have taken around Darlington are going to be used in a college of images that if someone from Darlington was to read the article they would know each location.  With the England photo shoot the idea that I pictured in my head did not come together as well as I would have liked to, when the props were ordered the wigs did not arrive for two of the models, which had a slight impact on how two of models looked compared to the main focus model. The outcome of the photos wasn’t as bad as I first though because the impact I wanted from the photo shoot was to look like three average England fans, in a way that they were not excited about the upcoming world cup but if they read the article they would change their mind which is why I intent to use a duller image at the start of the article then a more happy, excited look towards the end of the article.

My front cover is coming on just I would like, looking like FourFourTwo I was using the look that they created to base my magazine around a similar idea. With the front cover of FourFourTwo it has a big impact to the reader, using this technique I will create and similar looking front cover.

Project Monitoring- Week 4

Project Monitoring- Week 4

This week was a major turning point in my project as I found out that I was going to have to totally change my second idea for my double page spread, the critical impact of this was the change to my contingency plan (Darlington article). The thing with the article was that it is not going to be anything like I had planned in my treatment, with the idea in full motion I have completed an interview with Shaun Campbell.  The questions that I asked Shaun really helped me piece together how Darlington football club was saved. The major contribution that this interview has helped to shape my article because as my unique selling point was to focus on low and northern league teams, with Darlington they have a lot of depth that I found could be investigated, such as the event last year where the club nearly folded and how the community and fans came together in the eleventh hour to pour money into the club .This was a major part of this article, now to complete this article I need to redraft the short article as well as completing the collage of images of Darlington and finish the timeline of the history Darlington FC. With Middlesbrough letting me down I knew that I had to act fast to be able to come up with an idea to replace it, with the help of assessor we came up with the idea of an interview/overview of Darlington history.

With my England article finished all I need to focus on is actually creating the article in In Design and the photo shoot is planned for the 7th February. The plan for my photo shoot is to have three models dressed up in England associated t-shirt, face paint, hats/wigs, with the St Georges flag draped around all three of them. The idea of this photo shoot came about when I read an article that was aimed straight for England fans.

This week I have gone quite of schedule due to my interview at University and having to interview Shaun but know that I have all of my articles written I can focus over the next two weeks on creating and finishing my triple page spreads. The next two weeks are going to very crucial in allowing me to finish my project on time, now that I have everything I need to finish the two triple page spread I am going to be working very hard to make sure that my project will meant the standard that I set when I gave my pitch.

Project monitoring week 3

Project management week 3
This week in my schedule I had planned to finish my second draft of England: Dreams and hopes article, to finish this article I had to ask to football fans what they thought of England’s chances of winning the world cup. This has aloud to me to finish the whole of the article in full, the third draft on my article will be complete for homework so next week I can start setting up the triple page spread in InDesign and Photoshop. Now that the article is written I will complete the whole article by the end of next week. The photo-shoot for this article is taking place on the 7th February, for the photo-shoot I have planned is to use four models with props to make it look as if they are at an England match.

My other article; Young, English and Unnoticed has turned out to be a complete disaster. The interview that I had set up with Curtis Main has collapsed so after sitting down with my assessor and put together a contingency plan. The article is going to be a cross between the history of Darlington and how the club was saved.  Yesterday when I was walking down Duke Street I was lucky enough to bump into Shaun Campbell, who was part of the organisation that saved Darlington I managed to arrange an interview for Monday. I will be asking Shaun questions about how he impacted Darlington and how they were saved the club.

This week has made me think that I need to make sure that everything I am going to be doing over the next few weeks stays on schedule because anything can change very quickly. With what I have learnt this week is that my articles need to make sure that they stick to plan and don’t find any problems.

Project monitoring: Week 2

Project monitoring: Week 2

Following my schedule this week was focused upon writing my England: Dreams and Hopes article as well as having my photo shoot for my Darlington article within this week. The photos below are two images that I am going to be definitely using in my article, then reason why I have chosen to use these images are because there are two very different photographs: one cheering and the other one a disappointing one. Also the lighting in the second photo enhances the darkness of the

The article that I have been writing is coming along as I wanted it, due to my photo shoot I have had to break up my writing time which is why I have assigned it to homework slot one. The way that I have written this article as if I am talking in first person which has worked out harder that I thought it was going to be but by using the research I was able to use what I found to my advantage, as I said in my treatment I am going to be using first and second person which I have stuck by. This created some hurdles I had to get other at some points I did stumble which did account for me loosing time when I was just dragging a paragraph out, so I had to make a few changes to make sure that the reader would not get bored of reading them same thing that I had said at the start of the paragraph but in different words.

The final objective was to hopefully hear back from Middlesbrough FC which was the other one of my article, so with not having heard back from them I am going to be switching to my contingency plan which is my Darlington season plan. I will have to change a lot of my ideas but what I have planned is achievable. This is a bit of a disappointment because I was looking forward to creating a interview article with a big player at a big club, but as I had planned for in my original of creating an article about Darlington

Project monitoring: Week 1

Project monitoring: Week 1

At the start of this week I began construction of my A2 schedule, this task will help to me to make sure that the tasks that I have set myself over the next five weeks will be completed, This will allow me on the 15th February to make sure that all tasks are complete and my final project with all modifications is ready to hand in. The plan that I have used while creating this task is to finish writing my articles for my two triple page spreads first as it will allow me to shape the rest of the magazines around the text, this allows me time for the last two weeks to make any alterations to the magazine e.g. images, layout. The reason that I organised it this way is because I feel that if I get the writing side of the project done first I know that I will be able to construct the rest of my magazine around this, also the reason for me laying my schedule out like this is because when we created our AS project last year I found it much easier when the articles were written to when it came to my photo shoot I know exactly what type of images I would need to take.

I believe that if I stick to exactly what needs to be done on the schedule, the tasks that I have set are realistic. In the past units I have fallen behind in work so with this unit I need to make sure that I stay on task with what I have set myself. With the help of the schedule I know what needs to be done in each lesson allowing me to finish the project on time, one of the weakness I fine about myself it keeping track of tasks allowing them to build up until I have a lot to catch up on, so by using the schedule the tasks that I have set are a reachable goal if I keep my mind to it. The article that I had planned to do was: England: Hopes and Dreams and Young, English and Unnoticed, for one of my articles I had to plan a contingency just in case what I had planned to do for this article was not achievable, Young, English and Unnoticed, the reason why I have done this is because with the interview that I had planned may not be achievable. The biggest challenges that I am going to face with this assignment is the Young, English and Unnoticed because if I cannot get the interview I will not be able to use this idea in my final product so I will have to refer to my contingency plan which would be easy to achieve. Another problem that I will be facing is myself, I need to make I use my time correctly allowing myself time to complete the project, as I struggle at project management I need to stick to the schedule day-by-day so I can complete the tasks.
